The Twenty-First Century African Youth Movement (AYM) has unveiled a new logo that embodies unity, diversity, and collective effort. The new design, chosen through a public competition, highlights the organization’s commitment to empowering Africa’s youth. The logo features a golden map of Africa surrounded by six colorful hands, representing the various backgrounds coming together for a common goal. These visuals capture the spirit of AYM: a movement that values inclusion, growth, and a shared future for all young Africans.
Designed by Ildiko Toth, a volunteer graphic artist from Portland, Oregon, this logo replaced the one used by AYM since 1992. Toth’s design stands out with its simplicity and powerful symbolism. The Twenty-First Century African Youth Movement logo uses shades of brown, gold, and white, each with its own meaning. The brown hands represent people, the gold stands for Africa’s rich resources, and the white background symbolizes peace. The four hands placed around the map emphasize the global reach of the movement. It shows how AYM works across different regions to build stronger, more resilient communities.
AYM is dedicated to engaging youth as leaders of change. The organization focuses on creative projects that drive development in local communities. These projects include ecotourism, education, agriculture, social entrepreneurship, technology, healthcare and promoting art and African creative expressions and culture. By focusing on these areas, AYM empowers young people to create jobs, strengthen civic responsibility, and build a brighter future for Africa.
The winning logo reflects AYM’s tagline, “Hands at work; Minds in motion.” This statement embodies the organization’s mission to involve youth in active, progressive change across the continent. The design, with its clean, modern look, is a perfect representation of AYM’s vision and values.
The Twenty-First Century African Youth Movement continues to work toward its goal of building a prosperous and united Africa through the power of its youth. By mobilizing resources and reducing poverty, AYM aims to create peaceful, thriving communities. The new logo represents more than just a design change; it symbolizes a fresh start and renewed energy for the future of African youth.
