The Mixing Crew and the Young Sisters is a group of talented and promising young Sierra Leonean men and women who were brought together by misfortune. At the time of the production of this album, all of them were residing at the National Workshop Displacement camp in Cline Town, Freetown. Out of the bitter experiences of losing their homes, removed from their parents and scattered like locusts in faraway places, they create friendship with similar young people and bonded together.
They organized talent shows at the camp where they carved a niche for themselves out of sheer ambition, desperation, and a desire to forgive and forget in order to live a fulfilling life. Their goal was to find a sponsor and produce an album, find a decent place to live, and to continue going to school.
They realized that opportunity through the 21st Century African Youth Movement. when the founder and chairman of the Movement, Abu-Hassan Koroma (a.k.a. Askia ‘Med Hassan,) arrived in Sierra Leone in November 2000, he promised to help them realize their dream.
In April 2001, during a second visit by the founder, the group eventually cut their first album at Island Studio. The 21st Century African Youth Movement is proud to be a sponsor of youth talent in Sierra Leone. We are also proud to introduce the world to the Mixing Crew and the Young Sisters: The Rising Stars of Africa!
